Overview
Promise Keepers is a historic evangelical men's ministry founded in 1990 by former University of Colorado football coach Bill McCartney. It rose to national prominence through large stadium conferences that drew hundreds of thousands of men, culminating in the 1997 "Stand in the Gap" gathering on the National Mall.
The ministry organises men around a set of promises covering faith, integrity, marriage and family, purity, and racial reconciliation, calling them to discipleship and accountability. After a quieter period, it has continued to hold conferences and produce resources for men's discipleship.
Firmly within the Christian tradition, Promise Keepers remains one of the largest and best-known men's movements in modern American religious life.
