Overview

Boys to Men Mentoring is a San Diego–founded nonprofit created to surround teenage boys — many without consistent positive male role models — with a community of mentors. Since the 1990s it has grown into an international network with affiliates around the world.

Its model pairs school and community mentoring circles with rite-of-passage adventure weekends, where boys and volunteer mentors gather to build trust, accountability, and emotional openness. The aim is to interrupt cycles of isolation, violence, and dropping out by giving young men steady, caring male attention.

The organisation is largely volunteer-driven and emphasises long-term relationship over one-off intervention, with many mentors staying involved for years.
