Australian Men's Shed Association

Overview

The Australian Men's Shed Association is the peak body for the men's-shed movement, supporting more than a thousand community "sheds" across the country. The sheds give men — often older or retired — a place to gather, work on projects, and look out for one another.

Built on the idea that men connect "shoulder to shoulder" rather than face to face, sheds combine practical activity with informal support, and have become a significant force in men's health and wellbeing. The Association provides resources, advocacy, and coordination.

Though not a retreat in the immersive sense, the movement it leads is one of the most far-reaching examples of men's community anywhere in the world.
